Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review: Does It Really Work for Dry Lips?

In this Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask review, I’m going to spill the tea on whether this hyped-up jar of berry goodness actually lives up to the social media drama. Spoiler alert: My lips got hydrated, but did it change my life? Let’s find out.

Laneige lip sleeping mask review

Laneige claims it’s packed with fruit extracts and shea butter, working overtime to nourish and hydrate. Sounds fancy, right? But let’s be real, brands say a lot of things. “Hydrates! Softens! Fixes your entire life!” (Okay, maybe not that last part, but still.) So the real question here is, does it actually work? Because if I’m smearing this on my lips every night like a responsible, hydrated adult, I expect results.

Now, don’t get me wrong. My Clinique Moisture Surge? Chef’s kiss. It has been treating my lips like royalty, leaving them soft, and living their best life. But here’s the thing. I crave variety. I need excitement. And this time, that excitement came in the form of a lip mask. So there it is.

One second, I’m minding my own business, and the next, I’m clicking “Add to Cart” on the Laneige Lip Mask like it’s a medical emergency. No hesitation, no second thoughts. Just me and my impulsive shopping habits, and a tracking number I will be checking obsessively.

Let’s be real, I didn’t exactly resist the temptation. I mean, why wouldn’t I buy it? I’m a skincare nerd. It’s basically my civic duty to test out every hyped-up product that promises to change my life (or at least my lips). So yeah, social media got me curious, but let’s not pretend I wasn’t already halfway to checkout before the ad even finished loading.

Laneige lip sleeping mask: Flavors and packaging

Laneige has a bunch of flavors, I think 12 in total? Off the top of my head, I remember Mango, Sweet Candy, and Berry, which is their OG, their ride-or-die, their “this is what started it all” flavor.I got mine in berry flavor. Obviously. If I’m going to slather something on my lips every night, it better smell like berry. Basically, I wanted the full berry experience.

It comes in a 20g pot. Twenty grams. That’s not tiny. How am I supposed to carry that around if I want to use it as a lip balm? Because apparently, people are out here using this as a daytime lip gloss, just dipping in all day like it’s a normal thing.

I wasn’t sure if that was actually a thing or just social media shenanigans, but if true, I already knew I’d have an issue. This is no cute little Klavuu mini lip mask in a convenient squeeze-out package. This is a commitment. And I had to make peace with that.

But I needed a lip mask, not a pocket-friendly gloss, so sacrifices had to be made. Especially since my lips are dry. The kind where the skin on my lower lip peels off in little sheets, and I have a terrible habit of picking at it. In fact, I’m doing it right now. Not my proudest moment.

So it arrived. My moment had come. After suffering through winter with lips so dry they could double as sandpaper, my excitement was very justified. This was my little unboxing moment, my tiny skincare victory.

And I already knew it came with a spatula, which was a huge plus for me. Because let’s be real, I am not about that “dig-your-fingers-into-the-jar” life. Especially when it’s something I’m putting on my face. Absolutely not. Thanks to my slightly obsessive need for things to stay clean (possible teeny-tiny OCD potential here), a spatula just made sense.

But then, disappointment. The spatula was great and all, but where was I supposed to put it? No little holder on the lid, no slot on the pot! just me, holding this tiny thing and realizing I had nowhere to store it. A major oversight from the brand.

Because now I had two choices, lose it immediately or let it roam free in my drawer, collecting dust like a sad little relic. Anyhow, overcoming my sadness over the whole homeless spatula situation, I scooped a little out of the jar, and it rolled up like an ice cream roll, which was satisfying.

Texture

The texture felt thick, rich, like it meant business. And obviously, I wasn’t about to be stingy with it. My lips were in crisis mode, so I went in with a generous amount. Hydration? I needed it. Moderation? Never heard of her. Then I spread it over my lips and wait. No color? I had fully expected the Berry one to give me a cute pink tint, but nope. Clear as water. And then it hit me, duh. Why would a brand add color to a nighttime lip mask? You all sleep at night. I sleep at night. Who was I expecting to impress? The pillow?

Fragrance

Speaking of fragrance, let’s talk about that, because yeah, it’s got a sweet one. And I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of sweet, candy-like scents. This one definitely leans that way, with its sweet fragrance that kind of takes over. I’m more of a vanilla-scented person myself, you know? Anything but that “sweet candy” vibe. But hey, to each their own.

So after a generous application the night before, I woke up to find the product still hanging out on my lips, exactly like Laneige promised. Their website advises, “gently wipe off excess in the morning as needed,” and, well, I’m an obedient fella, so that’s exactly what I did.

Honestly, I could definitely tell the difference. My lips were more hydrated and rested than they were the previous morning. Like, they were living their best life while I was sleeping. No dryness, no cracks, just plump, soft lips that felt like they’d had a full spa treatment while I was off in dreamland.

Is Laneige lip mask worth it

After consistent use of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask for a few weeks, only as a lip mask and not as a lip balm during the day, I can confidently say that it did hydrate my lips pretty well. I wouldn’t go as far as some of those over-the-top reviews I’ve seen on social media, where they claim that this is the end-all, be-all product. But it did a solid job. I would definitely give it a 3 out of 5 for how well it hydrates my dry lips.

Would I repurchase it? Well, for a 20g pot, it’s a lot. It’s going to take me an eternity to finish the one I’ve got, but if I’m being put on the stand and asked to answer that question? I might not buy it again.

And before you judge me, yes, it did give my lips that needed boost of hydration but the scent just isn’t my vibe. Here’s my final verdict though. Laneige does live up to its claims. It’s a solid product. If you’re into fruity scents and need some serious overnight moisture, it’s definitely worth a try.
